No, actually, I think this does make sense. It brings up some interesting philosophical points. If this is where we are headed then the Internet will essentially be fragmented into thousands of bits and pieces. That will make it easier to track individuals and privacy will be nullified, almost completely. Implications:

&lt;ul&gt;	&lt;li&gt;Tracking criminals will be easier, but so will tracking the innocent&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;If Google has an exclusive on this then that could be, and should be, construed as an unfair business practice&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;In countries where the government filters search results, censorship will be taken to new lows&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;SEO will be most effective for companies who geotarget their efforts with geographically located servers&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

This will be both good and bad. But ICANN walks a tightrope because if they cozy up too snugly to Google then that will send a red flag, and it should. I wouldn&#039;t expect Microsoft to take this lying down.
